Google SEO Certification - The Good & Bad Side of It!!!
So Google SEO certification has been a matter of discussion at every table. There are some that claim it is not worthy at all since you learn SEO in the web world.
Is that true? Well, today we find that out.
You learn swimming in a pool and you get yourself a certificate, but your swimming ability is truly tested when you are at the sea. But again, would you be able to swim at the sea if you did not have the basic swimming skills?
You get the point, right? Let's dig in details.
Point # 1: SEO Is Constantly Changing.
True that. SEO is constantly changing with Google updating its policy every now and then without any prior notice. What you learn today will not be applicable tomorrow but this does not eradicate the importance of the basics.
The basics always stay put. It is the application of those basics that change over time. So even if SEO is constantly changing, you need your basics from Google SEO certification to understand which way the SEO is heading.
"Good SEO work only gets better over time. It's only search engine tricks that need to keep changing when the ranking algorithms change." – Jill Whalen
Point # 2: SEO Requires Creativity.
For an SEO to be effective, the SEO representative must be able to build real links, socialize with humor, connect with audience and reproduce reactions. All this requires a creative head. You need to know which areas are healthy for SEO and which areas will bring in spam traffic.
Google SEO certification or any other certification cannot certify creativity.
But then again, there are millions of creative people who have absolutely frantic creative minds, so can they all become SEO gurus? Does this mean that Jim Gaffigan, Aziz Ansari, Stephen Colbert and Ryan Seacrest can all become SEO experts?
No. You need basic learning in order to utilize your creativity in that direction.
Senior Digital Marketing Strategist, Kumail Hemani who works at Global Business Solutions in Dubai, playfully puts this argument to an end by saying, "Creativity without SEO certification is like doing something without knowledge."
Point # 3: Certificate of Completion versus Industry Certified.
Certificate of completion is just a piece of paper that declares that you have taken SEO course for X number of years and you have qualified with XX number of marks. What certifies you as a complete SEO expert when your certification is only based upon a few tests and skills put to exam?
Hence an SEO certificate only means that you have completed the course.
Am I against these certificates then?
NO. These certificates help you establish your basis in SEO working. With your basis, your experience then gets you the title of industry certified.
You are not going to be hired by reputed firms because you declare you are an SEO expert who has spent 4 years in SEO field but you get hired when you mention a Google SEO certificate along with 2 years of experience in any reputed firm.
So really, these certificates go along with your SEO life and are definitely not a waste. They will be a waste if you assume that you have learnt everything there is to learn through this certification. These certifications are your start points that give you basics; your journey begins with these certifications and never ends for as long as GOOGLE is alive.
